Not exactly the friendliest workers (but not horrible) or the largest selection of cards. But I must admit, their stuff are of HIGH quality (and expensive too). I've been here a couple of times, and their stuff is more on the classy side, but I'm still a HALLMARK fan. Today I bought ONE sheet of wrapping paper for $5 and another birthday card for another $5. But both was really neat, so therefore worth the price.
I love Papyrus but why do you have to be so retardedly expensive? Today I spent $18 on a journal and a pen. That's right a freaking JOURNAL AND A PEN!!!! NOW granted I could have gotten an ugly journal at Borders for about $10 but it would have been twice the size and had double the paper. So where is the value I am buying here except for style?! Oh I guess that is it, because you guys do rock the house with your style. I will say ever since I was yea high I've always loved your greeting cards. They are unique and often worth the money. Which is why I thought of you for a journal.
At least this journal has an inspiring message on it instead of it having the design that might appeal to a 3 year old. But god damn it you'd think for $18, the journal would also double as a therapist or sing me to sleep or something. No such luck I suppose.

This place can be pricey--you can definitely go to a Walgreens and pick up a card but there is something about this place that makes you say, "It's worth it." The cards they have are pretty and unique and if you want to give that person something extra special...this is the place to go to.

I hate Valentine's Day. Why? Not because I don't want to show Boy I love him more by spending the most. Not because I don't care to be financially raped by yet another holiday that has magically intertwined emotions and dollars. Not because I hate the color red or the words, "I love you". In fact, none of that bothers me one bit.
I mean: Overspending in order to one-up the love of your life? Splendid! Throwing money down the toilet? My FAVORITE past time! I love intertwining money and love- it's kind of like prostitution and that's sort of hot. Red is my color and I could say, "I love you" all day long...
What I really hate about Valentine's day is the blood, sweat, and tears that go into all that last-minute shopping. If you're a forgetful person who happens to work in the fidi, you are no doubt nodding in agreement at this very moment. There is not one store down here, yesterday or today (Valentine's) that is not packed with red-faced, aggressive SOBs out to get the very best for their one and only (who they managed NOT to shop for until the verylastminute). These people will push. They will shove. Ladies will mace each other for that last bejeweled card.
Because of this behavior, I almost got stuck with a card that read, "I want to fondue you" and had (you guessed it) a red fondue pot with two pink fondue sticks in it (they had faces. And were kissing). Enough said.
Fortunately, this Papyrus is pretty close and less crowded than the Embarcadero, Montgomery, New Montgomery, or Battery Street locations. Unfortunately, they were all out of what I wanted. Oh well. This is a solid go-to place for quality cards, stationary, and gift wrap as well as small quality gifts. They turned the cheese on a little too much for my taste for Valentine's Day but I am willing to overlook it. Customer service could use a little improvement (-1 star).

Do not go in here unless you want to end up spending a crap load on paper!!! Every time I go in, I end up spending a crazy amount on stationery or invitations or something that I will probably never use!!!! But in the end, it's extremely beautiful paper and worth it!!! :-D :-D :-D
Convenient. Pretty Cards. Unfortunately, I tried exchanging something once and I was told I would have to come back in 30 minutes because there was only one person allowed to do returns/exchanges. Lame.

Sometimes, I think I am far too nice of a friend. My best friend recently moved from CT to SF. In the past month, he has become quite smitten with a fellow online friend that we share - the two of them are beyond cute when they chat. Being the uber-sappy romantic that he is, he wanted to write her a calligraphy letter and mail it to her. Of course, to do that, you need the right supplies, and since he is still pulling himself out of debt from school loans (and what he already owes me), I offered to pay for the paper, wax seal ... etc.
The first place I thought of was, of course, Papyrus. While their card selection is consistently better than your neighborhood Hallmark, their actual stationary paper selection was pretty lacking. Even despite this, we were able to find some 100% cotton Crane & Co that did the trick. Their selection of calligraphy pens was nearly non-existent and the only wax they had for wax seals had glitter in it ... a bit tacky, but we went for it.
The lady ringing us up wasn't all that overtly friendly either - she seemed quite distraction by God knows what.

The girl that works here, Jessica has no customer service qualities at all.
She doesn't greet people who walk into the store. She's busy yaking away about her personal life to her coworkers at the registers. They stand there while customers are waiting in line to be rung up.
I asked her about different merchandise in the store and she tells me "we only have whatever is out." She didn't even bother looking in the back room. I used to work for Papyrus and this was NOT how I ever treated a customer. I always went out of my way to look in drawers and back room for products. I even went onto the computer to check our stock.
Yes, I have even helped out at this location and know they have stuff in the back room. Their stockroom is really far in the basement where you have to walk past the loading dock. Pretty scary walking there by yourself.
When you're ready to pay, she grabs the items from you without any greeting whatsoever. Doesn't state the total or even look at you and just waits for payment. All the while STILL talking about her private life to her coworkers. Bags up your stuff and puts it on the counter for you to pick up. Yes, still talking to her coworker when she should be talking to me.
Other than the horrible customer service here, they have a lot of cute stuff. This location is pretty small so they have to cram everything in. Go to the Embarcadero Center (a far bigger store) for a wide selection of things. They have summer and winter sales so that's the best time to stock up.
Cute unique stuff in here. Found some Christmas cards that are SF related which is always cool. Neat stuff, but over priced in my opinion. The girl who rung me up was sweet...I guess. Too helpful, maybe even a tad creepy? Not to sound rude but she kept trying to sell me on a Papyrus membership card. I give her props for trying, but she kept mentioning the "free gift wrapping" as her main selling point and adding "...And I LOVE to wrap!" over and over again. Wow, okay...leaving now.
